The Dharma Bums — Jack Kerouac

I tell people how much I love Kerouac. Often. On The Road changed my life. Before that, I was terrified to stay up past 22h just in case I failed at life. Gotta get that sleep. But after reading it, all I wanted to do was listen to jazz and have electric encounters with the great world night. Until this year, I had only read On the Road and also The Subterraneans. Reading The Dharma Bums while I was in Iceland this year felt appropriate. It’s about mountains and mist and Iceland is all volcanoes and fog. The pace shows a Kerouac who is ageing and wiser — and I’ve certainly aged since I first read his most famous novel.
